G’Day! The name’s Cameron and welcome to my little website for SIT124. As the background images may suggest, I am a large fan of video games, science fiction, medieval history, and fantasy.

I am a second year student studying a Bachelor of Game Design and Development. As my course title may suggest, I am looking to become a game designer later in my life, namely in areas of lead, character, story, and possibly level design. The dream is to create my own game and to see it bring joy to those who play it.

Simple right? It is no simple task to go from being a graduate student to becoming a game designer (for a large game company anyway) so I’ll have to work my way up, most likely from a position such as a QA Tester (Anon, n.d.). It’s a road that I’m willing to walk to complete my dream.

Many of the skills required for being a game design I have or am in the process of improving. The below lists came from cross-referencing the skills audit and the skills listed by various:

The skills that I currently have are:
The ability to work in a team
The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
Knowledge and experience in 3D design programs
Decent drawing skills (colouring is a different matter)
Creativity and the ability to be imaginative
Able to take on constructive criticism
Problem recognition and solving

The skills I currently need to work on:
Programming
Strategic Thinking
User Interface Design
Critical Thinking
Project Management
Attention to detail

Timeline

Here is my timeline for my career development:

Many of the courses I have chosen relate to my course and desired career, whether this be through additional 3D modelling and animation, or through writing so as to help with story design and the narrative of the game. The history subjects chosen are chosen as history is a hobby of mine and can possibly assist if deciding to later create a game on the topics.

DeakinTalent Profile

Here are two screenshots of my DeakinTalent profile, one of my summary, and the other of my communities. The reason I’ve followed these communities is because they either relate to my course (in part due to it being part of the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Built Environment) or because I have an interest in some of the subjects involved in other faculties. As can be seen, I’ve also put an interest into a community that assists in looking for jobs to help gain employment.

So far I only have a limited network of four people on DeakinTalent, all four of which are fellow students here at Deakin spread across various campuses.
